About Mental Health Care in Tennessee

Mental illness is something that can affect both adolescents and adults. Symptoms are not always severe, but they often get worse if you don’t seek treatment.

While mental health treatment may seem overwhelming, it is the best step forward toward recovering your mental well-being that you can take.
Mental health professionals at Summit at Harmony Oaks treat the whole person and give you insight into your mental health issues through therapy, medication, and other interventions.

Tennessee Mental Health Treatment at Summit

Summit at Harmony Oaks provides mental health treatment for Tennessee residents at several different levels of care, including inpatient and outpatient.

This gives us the ability to best address your needs and help you find wellness by giving you treatment at the appropriate intensity.

For example, you may need to begin at the inpatient level of care with our residential treatment program, which provides the highest level of treatment intensity.

Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers treatment at a level that is usually a step down from higher levels that allows for a transition to your daily life.

An IOP is usually held for a few hours a day, three to five days a week, allowing for flexibility for people in Tennessee who are working, in school, or have parental responsibilities.

IOPs continue mental health services found at other levels of care, such as psychotherapy and medication management.

Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Programs

The next level above an IOP is our partial hospitalization program (PHP). Our PHP offers outpatient services all day for five days a week.

Treatment is like that found in a residential treatment program and focuses on evidence-based therapy as well as alternative forms of treatment.

But unlike a residential treatment program, a PHP in Tennessee allows you to live at home while attending the program. This is a great arrangement for people who have strong support from their families.

Mental Health Residential Treatment

Residential treatment is the highest level of care we offer. Treatment plans that include our residential program are helpful if you are seeking a stable environment to focus on treatment.

People who attend a residential treatment program experience many of the same treatments as in a PHP, but they live on site at the treatment center.

Similar to treatment for substance use disorders, people going to residential treatment for mental health have an opportunity to focus exclusively on treatment.

Living at a treatment facility in Tennessee means that you won’t face triggers or the stresses of home life, particularly if your home environment is not supportive.

Cost of Tennessee Mental Health Programs

Mental health treatment in Tennessee can be expensive. The cost of treatment can be affected by a variety of factors.

The level of care you choose can increase the cost, if you need to go with, for example, residential treatment over outpatient treatment.

Insurance can mitigate the cost of treatment. However, a high deductible, coinsurance, or copay can still leave you with significant out-of-pocket expenses.

Here are some options to consider if you need help paying for treatment:

  • Government-sponsored insurance programs, such as Medicaid, can help if you are uninsured.
  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers grants to help qualifying individuals.
  • Sometimes, private donors will offer help in the form of scholarships.
  • Some treatment centers offer help in the form of payment plans or a sliding fee scale.
